Description
“Rise and Shine” is a testament to being a bad morning person. The warm morning light creeps in over the horizon with full vitality. Bird of paradise flowers show their full radiance in the morning light. Yet the figure in the image is coloured in off-gold, which seems sleepy in the arrangement, and the green clouds inside the silhouette represent the surreal internal atmosphere as opposed to the the radiant fresh air. The clock hangs in the air like the sun, an attempt by the artist to symbolise always “being behind time”. The brick wall is still under construction, a symbol of the mind slowly putting itself together. The artist simultaneously celebrates the beauty of the morning, whilst humorously illustrating his lack of synchronicity with it.
