“Metamorphosis” aims to capture a state of raw vulnerability, that the artist deems necessary for deep internal change. Despite its shocking first impression, there is no anguish or ill feeling in the painting, rather it is peaceful and intimate. The artist uses what he sees as the beauty of the human anatomy to show spiritual nakedness. The butterflies and the changing of day to night act as symbols of transformation.
