“Fresh Air” is the titular painting from Sesto’s exhibition at Brunswick Street Gallery in 2024. The painting is an embodiment of the idea “regeneration”, of discovering a new perspective and the sense of vitality that renewal can give. This is captured largely by the vibrance of the rainbow sky, as if one is breathing in a “fresh air” so joyful that it can only be described in hyper-colour. The landscape of boulders and yellow grass that populate the background is that of the artist’s hometown. This reference to his roots intends to tell a story of re-finding oneself in a familiar environment in a completely fresh way. The unusual yet beautiful energy of the painting perhaps owes itself to the paradoxical marriage of deep nostalgia, with the excitement of a completely new experience.
