Description
“Blue Silhouette” is a significant oil pastel drawing that became the template for all of Sesto’s future work. Taking inspiration from Rene Magritte, the work features a silhouette filled with clouds. The piece begins a dialogue in Sesto’s body of work concerning internal and external atmospheres; the concept that the world inside an individual’s head is distinctly different from the outside world, and it is the interaction of those “atmospheres” that creates reality. The piece acknowledges a common conflict between the two: namely that as humans the space in our minds are often chaotic when the external world (particularly in the western world) is indifferent, peaceful, and full of beauty.
